Comments:
Louisburg Road, near Raleigh. Coordinates are approximate. An article in The Raleigh Signal, November 10, 1887 stated that the Crabtree covered bridge had been in place 35 years, far outlasting many local bridges that had been hastily built. An article in The Press-Visitor (Raleigh), December 13, 1895, stated that the Road Supervisor McMackin was working on the road near the bridge and would be replacing the old covered bridge with either a new covered bridge or an iron bridge. An August 10, 1896 article confirmed that the old covered bridge had been pulled down the previous week and an iron bridge was being built quickly to replace it.
