Comments:
County #41 painted inside, County #43 on sign above portal. This is the only covered bridge in the county that survived the floods from Tropical Storm Agnes on Thursday June 22, 1972 other than the Fort Hunter Covered Bridge (38-22-05), which was already on dry land. It has the segmented arch above, similar to 38-22-08 and likely added for the same reason. It was bypassed by a new bridge on its north side in 1991 and was only open to foot traffic. It was heavily damaged by an arson attemp about 10:30 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2000. The bridge was completely rebuilt during the Summer and Fall of 2003 at a cost of $254,346.00 by contractor Jbeitz Enterprises, Incorporated of Mifflintown, PA after engineers had determined that remaining portions of the bridge had suffered severe damage due to rot, insect infestation and inappropriate repairs over the years". (Wooden Covered Spans Volume 27 - #1 - Winter 2004).
