Comments:
On the former main road between North Springfield and Gassetts. Near the original location of the Baltimore Bridge (VT/45-14-03). The Gassetts and Baltimore bridges were built to replace two bridges lost during flooding in the Fall of 1869. Per the Springfield Reporter, December 21, 1934, "Larger Number Working on Federal Jobs; Old Covered Bridge at No. Springfield Razed --- SPRINGFIELD— With the raz ing last week of the old covered bridge at the northerly approach to the village of North Springfield the last bridge of its type on the state highway system in this district disappeared a victim to progress and the age of cement and steel. The neighboring structure [45-14-03] which crosses No 10. Brook at the intersection of the County road and the North Springfield-Gassetts highway is the only covered bridge remaining in the Town of Springfield."
