Comments:
The original Hootenville Bridge was built by Warren Jackson Alford and James Wiley Herring in 1892 at a cost of $1,199.00. That structure was restored in 1985 and destroyed by flood water from Tropical Storm “Alberto” in July 1994. It was totally rebuilt by Arnold Graton in 1997, at a cost of $209,000.00. The bridge is located in a large, open, county-maintained area and has been bypassed by a new bridge on the downstream side and is no longer open to motor traffic. The original bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 1, 1975.
