Comments:
The first covered bridge at this location was built in 1824 and replaced in 1880. A hand hewn floor joist from the 1824 bridge was used in the construction of the 1880 bridge. The 1880 bridge had an unusual truss, in that it used a combination of Kingpost and Queenpost. It was bypassed and abandoned when Kentucky route 1159 was relocated in 1954. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It was completely rebuilt in 1998 after being severely damaged by flood waters in 1997. In 2001 it was again totally rebuilt using all new timbers. It was lengthened to fit a new location a few yards east of its original alignment. It is used by pedestrian traffic to access a small picnic area. The structure rests on concrete abutments faced to look like stone. It is covered with white painted vertical boarding on the sides and portals. It is also known as the White Covered Bridge because local residents have kept the bridge painted white for a number of years.
