Comments:
Per The Newport Daily Express (Newport, VT), April 4, 1940, "The ancient covered bridge, roofed with slate, which spanned the Poultney river between Vermont and New York at Carver's Falls near Fairhaven was pushed from its abutments to ruin by an ice jam Sunday [March 31, 1940], after having weathered the elements for more than 100 years. Employees of the Central Vermont Public Service corporation set fire to the structure Monday afternoon [April 1, 1940] as it lay half shattered, in the ice pack, some 300 feet downstream from its foundations." It was intentionally burned so it wouldn't cause damage to a power plant and other structures downstream. Probable picture in Skenesboro Museum, Whitehall, NY.
