Comments:
North Hartland was previously known as Evarts Station. Per the Spirit of the Age (Woodstock), March 15, 1855, The Old Charles Willard Farm and other properties at North Hartland were for sale by David Sumner and the description of the farm included the upper covered bridge on the old Turnpike leading from North Hartland to White River (Hartford Village). This information demonstrates that the VT/45-14-63 covered bridge was in place before this time and that the lower covered bridges for the woolen mill were also likely in place. The Vermont Standard (Woodstock), November 24, 1938 carried a notice of a special town meeting in the Town of Hartland for voters to assemble "To see it the Town will vote to construct a bridge across the Ottauquechee River at North Hartland in place of the covered bridge recently destroyed, and to provide funds for construction of same in excess of labor furnished by the W.P.A."
